These pages describe some of the experiences from my eleven–month stint studying philosophy and language in Grenoble, France. I hope you enjoy the tour, and that it makes you think again about going abroad, whatever your occupation.
Study abroad is one of the greatest opportunities available to students everywhere. Our world can start to seem like a scary place sometimes ... but by experiencing life in more places, and by learning more about people and cultures, people really begin to seem more similar than different—we're all human, when you get down to it. And the world just doesn't seem so scary after you know more folks from different places.
More people need to spend more time learning about more cultures in the world. Among other benefits, studying abroad confers an almost indescribable set of experiences on a student. After my own experiences studying abroad (and partly as a result of them), I've met many other people from widely different places. Although some people might disagree about religion, politics, or favorite colors, everyone that I've talked with agrees that their experiences abroad have changed their lives for the better.
