Moosak

Moosak is a music player applet for the GNOME 2 panel. It uses PyGTK for the interface, and harnesses the media power of GStreamer for the actual music playing part. At the moment, Moosak can play CDs, MP3 files, Ogg Vorbis files, WAV files, and FLAC files. Moosak basically behaves as a stripped down version of Rhythmbox, though the two projects are independent. Basically, if you're looking for a clean, basic music player applet for your GNOME panel, and you're not afraid to live on the edge of development, look no further !

Another media player ?

Moosak is a project I've wanted to do for a long while. The stock CD player for GNOME annoys me, and there's not really a non-CD music player applet out there yet. So, as it goes with many projects, one day I sat down and hacked ... and a week later Moosak was born.

Further info

Moosak has its own web pages. Check http://ambient.2y.net/moosak/ for the latest development news, download and installation information, etc.

Acknowledgements

Moosak would certainly not have been possible without the remarkable coding power of Python. Also instrumental were PyGTK (thanks jamesh and crew !), and the GStreamer Python bindings (thanks taaz !).

Doesn't it just give you the warm fuzzies to know that Open Source software fosters these kinds of cooperative activities ?
